Cyber Essentials Advisor

Location: UK | Hybrid
Reporting to: Head of Cyber Security

Ready to take your IT experience into Cyber Security?

If you’ve built a strong foundation in IT and are looking for the opportunity to develop a career in cyber security, this could be a brilliant next step.

We’re looking for a Cyber Essentials Advisor to join our Consultancy Team within Air IT’s Cyber Security Services function.

You’ll work directly with our customers, helping them understand, achieve and maintain Cyber Essentials certification. You’ll build your consultancy and technical skills while developing your wider cyber security knowledge, with opportunities to progress towards becoming an IASME-certified Cyber Essentials Assessor, Cyber Essentials Plus assessment and other areas of offensive security.

What you’ll be doing

As a Cyber Essentials Advisor, you’ll:

  • Advise customers on achieving and maintaining the Cyber Essentials standard.
  • Guide customers through the requirements, translating technical concepts into clear, practical advice.
  • Conduct Cyber Essentials assessments once qualified as an IASME Cyber Essentials Assessor.
  • Manage and prioritise multiple customer engagements and projects.
  • Make sure your recommendations are clearly understood and can be effectively implemented by customers.
  • Continue developing your technical and cyber security knowledge alongside our Consultancy Team.

What we’re looking for

You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re looking for someone with a solid grounding in IT, a genuine interest in cyber security and the drive to keep learning.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • At least two years' experience in IT, cyber security or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with security technologies such as firewalls, email/web filtering, EDR and SIEM platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of identity platforms including Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP and DNS.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to work with everyone from senior decision-makers to end users.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise your own workload.
  • A full UK driving licence, as you'll occasionally visit customer sites.
  • The ability to travel to an Air IT office when required as part of our hybrid working approach.

Even better if you have

It would be great if you also have:

  • Knowledge or experience of delivering specialist offensive security services.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security or a related subject.
  • Previous experience carrying out phishing or social engineering assessments.

Why this role?

This is a fantastic opportunity to make the move into a dedicated cyber security consultancy role while building on the IT knowledge you already have.

You’ll gain hands-on experience working with customers, strengthen your knowledge across Cyber Essentials and develop practical consultancy skills, with the opportunity to progress into Cyber Essentials Plus and other offensive security specialisms.

If you're technically curious, enjoy working with customers and want to build your career in cyber security, we'd love to hear from you.
